how did my fandom email get on some fucking MAGA pac list? and I don't even mean because in my entire life I have only ever registered for/voted for/campaigned for/contributed to the opposite of that. I mean this is my fandom email that I don't even use for that, it is completely disconnected from my IRL everything. How. which thing I signed up for with a fandom-only email at some point in the past 18 years handed over their contacts??

WELL, people are just dying to know, I'm sure.

LAMY Safari lilac 2016 special edition
$45
I have always used fountain pens and I own several, but this is the best one. The Safari should retail around $18-20 new, which is a good price for a great fountain pen. When I had a job with a work-from-home supplement I expensed a Caran d'Ache 849 I'd always wanted so I could put brown ink in it (don't worry about it) and that pen, which now retails for $72, is not nearly as nice as my LAMY. Now, LAMY does do limited-release colors of this pen, and the purple with black is my favorite colorway; I bought mine in 2016 when Choosing Keeping (great shop, worth a visit) was still on the Columbia Road, before they moved to Central. An interesting fact about this pen is that they released it with a special-edition ink that is now a cult item. I didn't buy any of it at the time because my go-to fountain pen ink color is schwarzblau, however, I did buy some violet blackberry ink last year to use in this pen and it's very pretty. I'm not a crazy fountain pen person, by the way, out here making swatches, I just like how fountain pens write.

I've never written a big bang fic that turned out good! They all have, like, experimental aspects I'm glad I tried, but in the end they were also all disasters. I wonder why this is? I mean, I wonder if it's the nature of the event, or if I'm maybe just not that great a writer? Like honestly I couldn't tell you.

The only site I could imagine being worse for fandom than Tumblr is Twitter. Like Tumblr, Twitter serves its purpose well and fills a niche in the web 2.0 landscape c. 2006. I'm not saying Tumblr is a bad site, or that Twitter is a bad site; they're both pretty good for what they're meant to do. Tumblr is a hyper-simplified blogging platform that's great for spreading memes and native advertising. Its straightforward layout is particularly suited to people who want a low-key site on which to create something like a scrapbook, an assemblage of other people's content that makes sense only to them. I also recommend it to older people who are just getting started with blogging because it doesn't rely on a knowledge of literally anything to run immediately. I'm telling you what I find compelling about Tumblr in order to point out that I really only think it's an awful locus for fandom, and that's always been my position. I hate it for fandom.

Twitter similarly does what it does just fine, though I never adopted it full-time. It's an extremely abbreviated communication tool. It lacks almost all of Tumblr's functionality by limiting posts to 140 characters in length. It quashes art and is useless for fic or any other kind of longform writing. It's best used for sharing links or brief, pithy observations. Snappy rejoinders. Like Tumblr it could play a useful and productive role as part of a fandom experience that took place on many sites. I'm discussing the main functionality of Twitter and not its behind-the-scenes workings or its bizarre, shifting approach to archiving and presenting content.

Basically, a fandom that moves onto Twitter is the most ephemeral possible version of the site. Tweets are so fragmentary and so fleeting that they effectively abbreviate human experience.

I'm posting this only so that when the apocalypse does arrive, and it will, I'll look prescient.

This is a prompt fic from a Tumblr meme that I am hosting here because their lj-cut feature is broken and I hate longform text that's not behind a cut.

This post follows up those written in 2013 and 2014 concerning the current state of my SP fic projects and works in progress. Generally summer is when I have a lot of time to do things, and that’s sort of true, but also this summer involves the very very very end of some awful real-life work so yes, it’s like basically July, but I really haven’t cut loose yet and am therefore farther behind that I’d like to be. That said, I am making progress, and it helps to this every year around the same time, so behold, the status of my South Park fanfic life:

Just a little thing I won't finish about Jimbo babysitting for Stan and Shelly. I don't know if I wrote this before <lj user=formerdinosaur> posted her fic about the same idea, but that one's more complete/finished/better-executed, so check it out.

For eight years I have been saying I would write a South Park or perhaps just a Stan/Kyle recs list. Finally, I have managed to produce something to that extent. This is a work in progress and I hope to continue to expand and edit it into the future. I've organized it by authors with particularly high-quality catalogues, individual fics, and then authors whose work I enjoyed in the past but wouldn't say are currently my favorites. The main purpose of the list is to share some of what I've enjoyed reading, but a significant secondary purpose is to expose readers to new things they might not have stumbled across before. My e-mail address is included below if you wish to pass along thoughts or suggestions. Happy reading.

Title: An Unwillingness
Rating: PG13
Summary: On a joint trip to Sarasota over fall break, Stan experiences a series of firsts.
Author's note: This is a birthday gift for the beautiful and talented [livejournal.com profile] negniahn, who is a very dear friend of mine. She drew a gorgeous illustration for this fic, which is a prequel to my other FTM Kyle fics. I wish I had more time in the day to devote to Nhaingen, admiring her art, and writing her stories, because she deserves love and attention on her birthday, and every day of the year. Thank you, Negs, just in general. V.v.V
