I'm sorry, I just need to get this off of my chest before I move on to formatting this thing for FF.net.

I am very close to just saying 'fuck it' and never posting another fic on LiveJournal again. I know it doesn't seem like that big a deal, but making five separate posts and formating all of them for this site is fucking absurd. This chapter I just posted isn't even all that long; it's only about 16,000 words. I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to get that into one post, or at least two. But five?

So I am seriously asking this, and I really hope you guys will respond: If I only linked to larger stories posted on FF.net in my LiveJournal, would you still read them? And, also important although not as much, would that keep you from commenting? The reason I started double-posting is that I thought only doing it on FanFiction.net would exclude LJ people, and vice versa.

It's just driving me crazy, is all. Posting a story shouldn't take two hours.

Honestly? I despise FF.net. I'd probably read it anyway, though.

Right now I'm seeing it as the lesser of two evils.

I would still read. Granted, I'm totally behind on your writing, but location doesn't matter to me. Here or over there, you're still one of the authors I choose to check up on. (edit to answer your question: I would still comment over there too!)

How are you posting stories to LJ? Are you posting in the "Rich Text" tab? I hate that friggen' thing. I always copy and paste my words into "HTML" mode because rich text always fucks with my spacing. Besides, the HTML tab removes any unnecessary "invisible" characters that can carry over from Microsoft word (if that's what you are using.) They can take up extra space. I know my one SP story that I posted on here is like, 14,000 words or something, so I had to split that up into two posts of 7,000 a pop. Five posts for 16,000 seems excessive.

I only double-post on LJ because I like to talk to the people who read my stories, otherwise, I don't think I would.

That's so flattering! I'm not even one of the authors I check up on. Wait, what? (OMG, really? I would love you.)

Here is the thing: Yes, I am doing rich text/WYSIWYG, but only because the HTML destroys my formatting and fucks with my spacing. Yes, really. I just don't know how to do it, man. This is getting very annoying.

Yeah, see, good discussions happen here. Really! Like this one! Do you see what's going on? LJ is a democratic paradise. But, sigh, maybe it's not meant to be.

Thank you so much for responding.

i'd follow you to the moon and back. i'd leave comments on ff.net as well. but aren't there censorship issues with that website?

Yeah. Gee, isn't it a shame there's no SP fan fiction archive website that does these things for me so I don't have to worry my pretty little head about it?

I cannot believe you're asking this. OF COURSE WE WOULD READ YOUR FICS! I would!! The only reason I read/comment here is because this is where I find them first. And on more than one occasion, I think you told me beforehand that you were posting a story up here.

I will leave my shitty, nonconstructive comments there too!!
I TRY SO HARD FOR YOU!

I have to ask! It's only polite.

I know you do! And I hope you know I appreciate it. Because your art is pretty and it makes me smile and so do you and other gay things.

Ohhhhh, stop~
I love gay things, too. I am so glad people like you exist!

I wouldn't read your stories there. I'm just not interested enough in your writing to click on a link that might take an entire .0005 seconds to load. I'm sorry. I want to be a good fan, but this is unreasonable of you.

I'm comparing reading your fic on LJ to my first child. Even in jest, this is a little fucked up.

as long as there was a link from here to there, it wouldn't be a problem at all. it's just i never check ff.net, because i have no reason to. my fandom isn't there, & there's something weirdly impersonal about it which means i don't like commenting there, either. like, i read your fics on ff.net, yeah (i was desperate for sp fic, & my searches on lj proved fruitless) but i didn't comment for ages until i did the stalkerish thing & found your lj. i don't know. i know it's just the fucking internet all over, but lj makes me feel like people are somewhat real, somewhat approachable, & somewhat intelligent. (SOMETIMES, okay, sometimes.)

so the point is. obviously i'd still read your stuff, because the actual location where i read it is no bother. (some of my favourite bandom authors post to their own sites, or, more recently, to dreamwidth, because there's been a bit of a shift over there, recently.) just as long as there's a link on an lj somewhere that shows up on my flist to remind me that some sweet sp ficcage awaits me. & i would end up commenting on the lj post rather than on ff.net, because i'm just not that au fait with that place. do you prefer comments on lj, or on ff.net?

i don't think your audience or whatever would diminish if you posted the main body of the story on ff.net - reading it here or there, it's the same. like, the only time i really will NOT read something purely because of the place it's posted is if someone has put their story up on their lj, & the page behind the cut is not formatted like this one, the plain black-on-white, simple, default lj layout, but it's a fancy style with an odd background & miniscule writing & ARGH. i mean, that shit's okay for your own lj, if you wanna strain your eyes reading your flist, but i can't stand fic posted in weird colours with ridiculous fonts.

ANYWAY. this is all to say that, uh. yeah, post to ff.net if it's easier for you, i don't think it would bother anyway. but you should link from your lj, still, & i'd probably comment over here, too.

It has always been very weird to me that the SP fandom is predominantly on FF.net, because up until this fandom FF.net was a big joke to me, and anything posted there was either redundant, or trash, or a one-in-a-blue-moon decent (or better) exception. When I first got into fandom, everything was on webpages; each author had her own, and things were kept in large archives. Then things slowly gravitated toward LiveJournal, and fandom became very personal. I don't get why this fandom is mostly on FF.net and DA. Or why no one has his own site. It just strikes me as odd. I'm not sure I like it.

I hate those oddly formatted journals, too. Thank you for responding to this; whatever I decide to do, I would definitely link to it. I think I'd only do major linking for huge stories, anyway. If something fits in one LJ entry there's no reason not to post it, right?
