Some stupid meme
May. 29th, 2011 18:50I found this on some other journal, and being -- well, I'm not bored, actually, but I like answering silly questions. Plus I'm trying to find out if anyone still looks at this journal. So, let's play meme.
Name me a character!
I will tell you:
* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
Feel free to ask about anyone, anyone at all. I'm obviously familiar with things that aren't South Park. But do ask about that, too.

Date: 2011-07-14 15:25 (UTC)* How I FEEEEEL about this character
I love Butters and don't understand why some people are so vehemently anti-Butters or vehemently defensive about Butters. He's a funny character. Now, obviously, sometimes he's funnier than other times. I don't think everything he does is hilarious automatically by virtue of the fact that he's doing it. Fandom-wise, man, people have no idea what to do with him. He often gets cursed with the characterization that he's a complete idiot. I try to write Butters with at least some kind of dignity, but I bet people hate it. Oh, well.
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
I'm way more interested in seeing Butters written well than in who he's paired with. I've written him in various ways with Bradley, Dougie, Kenny, Cartman, Clyde, male OCs, female OCs. I guess I think Cartman/Butters only works when Butters like Cartman and Cartman is actually straight but stringing Butters on for some plot point. Kenny/Butters is completely insane and I hate how people do that most of the time.
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
Cartman. Honestly, Butters probably is the only person who can even begin to attempt to relate to Cartman as a human being. They're probably BFFs, with Butters being overly accommodating and Cartman being totally codependent.
* My unpopular opinion about this character
I'm sure Butters is neither gay nor meant to be gay nor meant to grow up as gay in canon.
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
I wish they'd not put that vampire episode on TV. That was pretty bad. There was a good scene or two, but seriously, Butters doesn't seem like the type to fall for trends. Also, it was pretty bad. Also, Butters works best when he's sort of out-of-focus, maybe.
Yay, this was fun! Ask me more stuff.

Date: 2011-07-14 15:55 (UTC)Cartman and Butters together might be my favorite thing on the show. Not sure how I feel about actually shipping them. I agree that it would have to be some weird unrequited thingamajig to work. (You've written Butters with Bradley? Where is this shit?)
I hate how
most peopleeveryone writes Kenny/Butters, but I think it's kind of a charming concept. I just wish someone would do it right. The vampire episode was shit. I like the part where he gives Cartman a hickey, though.
Um, um, now do Clyde? In the spirit of that ferris wheel fic. Or Stan...? Or both! I don't know.

Date: 2011-07-14 16:45 (UTC)Sweet, here's both:
* How I FEEEEEL about this character
Clyde is awesome. He's a crybaby with a colostomy and only one testicle. No one does him justice.
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
Realistically, he would probably grow up pathetically boring, marry some dim decent-looking girl and live in South Park until he died. I guess I like him with Kenny, a pairing that makes no sense, but I did so much legwork trying to make it happen that I can't undo it in my mind, I suppose. Someone could convince me easily if they wrote an amazing Clyde/Token story, but no one will.
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
Token.
* My unpopular opinion about this character
Clyde/Kevin isn't that interesting.
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
"Lice Capades" was the most boring examination of Clyde's character. So I wish they'd give him an episode that wasn't half-devoted to, like, insects. Then again, I'm not sure South Park does a good job putting the focus on any character other than SKKE. I guess what I really want to see is an episode that has more Clyde/SKKE interaction. He and Cartman are pretty funny.
~
* How I FEEEEEL about this character
Stan is my favorite character on South Park and my favorite character to write about in fanfic. I get frustrated when I see him reduced to any kind of emo wuss or meathead jock kind because he deserves so much more than that.
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
Kyle. Period. OTP. I've written about Stan fucking all sorts of characters who aren't Kyle, but it totally doesn't mean anything.
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
Kyle. Canon. It's kind of the basis of the entire show.
* My unpopular opinion about this character
That he's not boring. At all. That it's other people's frustration with the ubiquity of Stan in fanfic that makes people assume he's not worth dealing with.
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
Oh, god. Well, clearly I hope Stan gains some perspective in the next episode. Also, I hope Kyle comes around and realizes that being a dismissive little shithead isn't the right way to handle a friend who's depressed. Because South Park is a soap opera and Matt and Trey always take the path of emotional healing over LOLOLOLOL farting.

Date: 2011-07-14 17:18 (UTC)Yay, I get both. Thanks dawg, this is fun.
Yeah, I don't get that whole Kevin/Clyde thing. Kevin who?
Now that I think about it, Clyde's episode being half-devoted to insects is actually pretty lulz in itself.
Hold on. I have an idea. You should write that Token/Clyde fic! YEAH.
Stan's the best. He deserves more love. More than Kyle gets, I daresay. I don't even like Kyle that much, but S/K is my OTP too. Can't deny it. I'm so excited for the next episode! Character development makes me so happy. Kyle being a shithead makes me sad.

Date: 2011-07-14 21:17 (UTC)I'm having fun, too. But you keep asking me about characters I actually like. I'm not writing Token/Clyde fic. I have too much to do. And Stan is awesome, and Kyle's a bit overrated; not because he's bad, he just gets so much, both on the show and in the fandom.
But, seriously. No one ever talks to me. Who are you.

Date: 2011-07-15 03:31 (UTC)I don't hate any of those characters because they're all relatively hilarious on television. Tweek would be my least favorite to write due to the fact that he's like not really a person.

Date: 2011-07-19 17:04 (UTC)* How I FEEEEEL about this character
I like Kyle. It probably doesn't seem that way from how I write about him, but I do. I think, even as an 8-year-old kid on the show, he's very self-conscious. He's impatient and insecure. I don't think this makes him an effeminate boy, but it lays groundwork for him to grow up kinda neurotic and weird.
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
Stan.
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
Also Stan.
* My unpopular opinion about this character
I don't think Kyle would keep kosher 24/7 or even sometimes. I really don't think he'd care that much.
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
I wish he were more patient with Stan, I guess, in the most recent episode.

Date: 2011-08-17 04:20 (UTC)I think Kenny gets misused more than anyone, so I'll go with him.
* How I FEEEEEL about this character
Kenny is probably SP’s most iconic character, and the source of much of the show’s humor in its early seasons when I started watching, and definitely part of the overall mythology of the series, if such a thing exists. So yeah, for what he is on the show, I love him. But he is so often fucked-up in fan fics (I’m guilty of this, too) that I sometimes can’t stand him. He’s omnipotent, omniscient, angelic, beatific, dark, self-sacrificing, worldly wise, edgy, selfless, attractive, promiscuous, mature beyond his years, and clever, often in the same fic. So, basically, he’s a Mary Sue. I really don’t understand most of the people he gets shipped with, either. Like, I’m really not into Cartman/Kyle, but I get it, on some level. Kenny/Kyle just baffles me. The people who are into Kenny are suuuuuuper into Kenny. Sometimes to an off-putting degree.
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
No one! I see Kenny as very versatile. He seems not to be particularly close to anyone on the show, so I think this gives people free reign to stick him with anybody, and so long as it’s well-written, it could theoretically work.
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
Probably Cartman. Out of pity.
* My unpopular opinion about this character
Oh, god, Kenny is written poorly about 90 percent of the time. It’s so fucking aggravating. He’s the character I most often want to beat over the head with a fucking shovel. Also, I thought Clyde was Mysterion.
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
Like every South Park fan girl, I think it would be pretty awesome if Kenny took off his hood and had all these feelings and shit. But he’s really only funny when he’s not doing that. So, I don’t know. I guess I wish he was a more natural part of the cast, but I get that working him in is exhausting.

Date: 2011-11-20 03:19 (UTC)* How I FEEEEEL about this character
When I first got into the fandom Craig quickly became my favorite character. I don't even know why anymore, but being in the fandom over several years reversed this to the point where I don't even want to read about Craig. He's been beaten into the ground. I'm sort of disgusted by how I've written him, too. I think no author I've ever read has a good grasp of him, he's this convoluted cipher, and we've all got him wrong. He's amusing and adorably monotone on the show, though, that's still true. I like watching him, I just don't want to hear about him. I guess art is okay.
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
Well, I misguidedly wrote a huge fic about him and Kyle, um. That was based on jack shit. Oops. I guess Clyde?
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
Also Clyde. Maybe Token? I don't think Craig and Kenny or Tweek would get along very well, as far as popular Craig ships are concerned.
* My unpopular opinion about this character
Oh god, see the first question.
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon
I wish they wrote him more consistently. Is he the clever, cynical innovator of "Quest for Ratings," or is he boring and hesitant like in "Pandemic"? They seem like two totally different kids to me. I mean, I get why they don't, and it's not any different than how inconsistently they write Butters or Cartman, but Craig's on the show way less so his character never evens out.
