I have reached a point where I have started writing too many things to ever finish them all. I am going to be gone a whole lot over the next month, and
imaginaaation is holding a contest that I have got to finish a story for by June 30.
What should I work on?
- A dramatic story about death?
- A tense story about body modification?
- A boisterous story about fake hipsters?
- A graphic story about geometry?
- A mournful story about adoption?
-A first-person story about promises? I can write this, but not in the first person.
- A funny story about gender identity?
- "The Other Table"?
- ETA 6/12: A cracked-out story about Kyle having a vagina? (This story isn't deep enough to pretend to be vague and cool about it.)
- ETA 6/12: A fluffy story about antiquing?
Without telling you which is which, one of these stories doesn't have Stan or Kyle in it at all, one isn't actually slash, one that is slash isn't Stan/Kyle, two are multi-chaptered, one is set during college, and one of them, I haven't even begun writing.

I know exactly the kind of situation you are in, me love, and I feel for you endlessly. God, the worst thing about being a writer is having a thousand and one things in your mind, but not having the time/energy/etc. to get it all out. Ugh. Seriously, it's just the worst thing. Ever.
But, hey, if you can't get flesh out The Other Table properly, I vote for "a boisterous story about fake hipsters," because for some reason, that sounds totally awesome. I won't even try to guess which of these may have Stan/Kyle, because I gotta admit, I love your writing so much, I don't even care if there's slash in it. :p

Date: 2008-06-04 02:16 (UTC)The thing with "The Othe Table" is that I have been at least two chapters ahead of myself this entire time, so I start thinking, "Oh, I have five chapters to go, I should start writing this horrible vampire mpreg story about Stan and Kyle raping each other with carrots," and then in the meantime I post some "Other Table" and suddenly I'm not so far ahead and then I have to catch up and ... gah, what a stupid problem to have.
Anyway, what I'm saying is, it is totally in progress, but I have to wonder what I should give my attention to in the meantime. Thankfully I think you gave the right answer, because I love writing about fake hipsters. Or whatever. I bet I'll post that eventually and you'll be like, "Oh, this was that"?

Date: 2008-06-04 20:17 (UTC)Plus, dude, I so got rejected for the Stan/Kyle relationship fanlisting a few weeks ago after the old one was removed from the network, and needless to say, I spent so many days wallowing in self-pity and wanting to cry myself to sleep and doing nothing proactive. It was a horrible ordeal to get through.Anyway... getting back to the point, yeah, I do write, but so much of my attention is on trying to get out original works rather than fanfic that I often times have difficulty balancing what my mind is telling me to "sit down and write, you stupid bitch." (No, really, my mind talks to me like that.) But, thankfully, summer is coming up soon, and I will have time to get out everything that's been scratching at my skull. So, if I do indeed decide to write a SP fic--(which, dude, I totally want to, actually)--then it should surface the world sometime then. And hopefully, if the universe is nice enough and I manage to complete that task, I can only hope it meets your assumption. :p
What a stupid problem to have? Ha, never! I think that situation happens more often than you think. :p It's certainly happened to me anyway, and so I think it becomes obvious that sometimes we become so proud of what we've already written that we assume it's okay to venture away from it for a little while. I don't blame you one bit for focusing your attention elsewhere in the meantime though. Fake hipsters unite!
But, dude, that vampire story you mentioned. ....... Sweet lord, why does that intrigue me?

Date: 2008-06-05 15:42 (UTC)How do you get rejected for/from/[insert proper preposition here] a fanlisting?
Original fiction is obviously far superior. You're probably doing the right thing. But then again, I really like SP fan fiction and think everyone should write it.
The problem is I either write really quickly or really slowly, in weird fits and spurts, and actually, I edit really slowly. So who knows when anything will be done. Sorry.
Oh, god, that was my pathetic attempt at a spur-of-the-moment random example of a cracked out story. I'm not going to write it. But I'd read it! Maybe you should get on that.

Date: 2008-06-05 15:58 (UTC)Me, too, man. Somehow all of it managed to shift over onto communities, and it seems like the lower quality stuff is on webpages now or something, and all the juicy, good stuff is hidden away in a thousand different communities. Go figure!
How do you get rejected for/from/[insert proper preposition here] a fanlisting?
In order to get rejected for a fanlisting, someone else has to apply for it, too, and the staffers of the network determine who is a "better" candidate as the owner. I think it was just between me and another person and so I ended up getting rejected. I would be sobbing myself to sleep still but I realized later on (after the rejection) that I kind of wrote a crappy application (you have to write applications in order to be considered for a fanlisting) so I only blame myself. XD Ugh, the pain.

x3 I edit slowly, too. So slowly, in fact, that by the time I'm done, I'm usually less enthralled with my work than when I began writing it, so it feels like a pitiful job by the time I finish.
Oh, god, that was my pathetic attempt at a spur-of-the-moment random example of a cracked out story. I'm not going to write it. But I'd read it! Maybe you should get on that.
Hey, I'd still read it. XD Speaking of spur-of-the-moment cracked out stories, have you been stalking/paying attention to the South Park kink meme (http://community.livejournal.com/crack_rack/10672.html)? I participated in one of those for another fandom, but never thought I'd see a South Park one. I think everything people have posted so far is either deliciously warped or just all together amazing. Then there are some requests that make me LOL really obnoxiously because of the WTF factor.

Sadly, no one voted for the story I'm actually writing for your contest. Although, you know what, I am such a death junkie. I need to write a deathfic. And it might suck. WHO KNOWS. I hope I finish all of these, oh lordy.
I wait for your reviews with bated breath. They kind of make my life worth living. Well, that's being dramatic, but in all seriousness, you write the kind of reviews that make whiling my life away on writing South Park fan fic seem completely worth it. (And you write the kind of stories that make whiling it away reading fic completely worth it, but let's not even go there because I'll just be like pleeeeeeeeeease update again and that's no good.)
Eh, I'll be around. Ish. I mainly do business over the internet, so I can't stay away from it for too long, even if I'm not technically working. (Although, parenthetically again, do you actually go on this MSN thing? Or am I just too stupid to use it correctly? Maybe I downloaded the wrong thing by mistake.) Which reminds me that I need to send you an e-mail or something about editing. Sorry for the delay, and also that it won't be too earth-shattering.

Date: 2008-06-08 07:53 (UTC)I change my vote to an umbrella vote, then. TO COVER EVERYTHING. I am also writing a deathfic. It is horrible, and I would much rather read yours.
Oh god, so I just reviewed. I feel like such a fucking moron; it surpasses "excessively long" by roughly a thousand words, and I'm sure none of it is helpful/interesting/what you'd like to hear. Please do NOT feel obligated to reply in-depth, if at all. I don't even want to take the time to re-read what I wrote. I wish you could hide reviews on fanfiction.net. I knew it was going to be long when I posted it, but I didn't realize it was going to EAT YOUR ENTIRE PAGE. GOD I AM EMBARRASSED.
...shit, I forgot all about MSN. I'll try to be on
at allmore often. I could also stalk you on AIM, because I don't really like MSN either. I never got back to your review on my dA fic because I was trying to find pictures of my fat cat to share, sorry! An e-mail would be fantastic, but only if you've got the time.no subject

...yeah.

Date: 2008-06-13 04:19 (UTC)We should do like an informal deathfic exchange, because I would love to read yours. Although, let's be honest, I have an unfair advantage because I stalk your FF.net profile so I kind of have an idea what it's about. (I have no idea when mine will see the light of day, either.)
I am going to reply in-depth
when I get around to it. (I just stole your strike-out thing, there. Thanks for that.) Your reviews are seriously awesome. Do you not like getting them, or something? (Wait, I tell myself, don't think that, that's retarded.) I think you write the kind of comments that authors (good or bad or middling) flip out over because it is so rewarding to know that someone not only enjoyed your writing that much, but they put some time into thinking about it. And it's always helpful to hear what readers are picking up on, and what they're not, etc. I am sure you already know this. But if I could hide fandom reviews on FF.net, I would never, ever hide yours. I would hide the ones from my friends who make up stupid names to annoy me.I actually want to see a picture of your fat cat. And as for an e-mail, it will be up shortly.
(Man, I can't believe I have reached a point in my life where I go away for five days and I have fandom things to catch up on. Oh my god.)

I'll say the hipsters one, sounds interesting.

Date: 2008-06-06 20:04 (UTC)Overdramatic? Oh, maybe, but I'm fucking insane and dramatic myself. I'm very flattered, though, that I can be the source of the drama sometimes. No, really, thank you.
I think after OT and this contest my priority will be hipsters. Although maybe it won't be interesting. You never know.
